Renew, Refresh, Renovate

Have I mentioned that we are embarking upon a kitchen renovation this year? That’s rhetorical, I know I haven’t. It’s all a little overwhelming and I’ve been alternating between giddy excitement and dread. Today excitement wins out.

We began in January, determining our vision for the space and starting the designer/contractor selection process. It took more than 3 months to do our due diligence, exploring our options – Big Box store kitchen, full-service design/build shops, other approaches … although DIY was never on the table. That is sooo not us. We finally selected Kitchens and Baths Unlimited and have been happy to work with lead designer Kelly Thayer.

Our 100+ year old home last received a kitchen remodel during the 1970s – picture linoleum, dropped ceiling, formica countertops, brown tile and wood paneling everywhere. Let’s just say … it’s time for an update.

After much investigation and debate, we have made some key decisions about design, materials, finishes, colors and a little bling-bling. The new cabinets are being built and the demolition will begin in a couple of weeks. I’m nervous because everyone who has already been through a renovation project has plenty of scary stories to share – chaos, noise, dust, delayed timelines and increased expenses. It will be worth it in the end, I know, but I may need to talk myself into that point of view a few more times before this project is complete.

Details and updates will be provided along the way including before, in-process, and after photos.

Thanks, Phyllis. We still have lots of construction yet to come, it'll be another 4 weeks at least until everything is done. But it sure is exciting! Can't wait for you to see the finished kitchen when you come for the Holiday Open House in December. I'm wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year too!
